Helping nature centers succeed in a 21st century world.

Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center

Denton, Nebraska • March 2014-February 2015

Project Description

Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center had been open for eight years. The Center’s leadership determined it was time to revisit the original business plan, checking its assumptions, evaluating its achievements, and charting an adjusted course for the future. As a part of this project, I:

  • Conducted three focus groups of stakeholders to gather their ideas and perspectives.
  • Produced a S.W.O.T. analysis (Strengths-Weaknesses-Opportunities-Threats) that included comparisons with similar nature centers around the U.S.
  • Facilitated a stakeholder-driven strategic planning process that revisited the basic tenets of the Center, including its mission, vision, guiding principles, goals, and objectives.
  • Provided ongoing support to the process.

Completed with the National Audubon Society

“David Catlin’s experience in business and strategic planning has been a great asset during the development of our two Nebraska Audubon Centers. He worked closely with staff and Board leadership to help us successfully target our conservation impact and grow our programs, visitorship, and funding.”
Marian Langan, Audubon Nebraska Executive Director
